The Upstate community is standing up in unity in response to the upcoming KKK Rally in Abbeville, SC on July 25-27. Our message is simple, we are a diverse community in race, age, sexual orientations, and gender identities. We are people of different faith traditions, and those without faith traditions. And we are standing up together to combat the ideals of the KKK. We believe in equality. We believe in the power we each hold when we stand together to create a grassroots movement driven by love.
So, whoever you are, whatever your faith tradition is, and wherever your journey is leading you; we invite you to come join us at the Hughes Main Library in downtown Greenville from 3:30-5:30pm on July 26th for the Unity Rally Against Hate.
We are honored to be joined by Lecia Brooks, Outreach Director for the Southern Poverty Law Center. Lecia is scheduled to give the keynote speech at the Unity Rally. As Outreach Director, Brooks frequently gives presentations around the country to promote tolerance and diversity. She also serves as director of the Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery, Alabama, an interpretive center designed to provide visitors to the Civil Rights Memorial with a deeper understanding of the civil rights movement.
We are also going to enjoy a short performance by Pride of Greenville Men's chorus. Come hear from Lecia and other local community leaders standing up against hatred and help us send a clear message about our community.
Also please note that there will be an area for literature to be handed out about affirming upstate organizations. If you plan to attend and have any information to hand out about your group/organization/event please feel free to do so at our information table.
